I saw Deol parivar's APNE recently.
And I was wondering, while Chak De India got rave reviews as a sports movie, Apne didn't get any mention of the sports angle in it. I liked Apne, though I don't want to term it completely as a sports movie, the element of sports has been handled beautifully. I'm not in favour of boxing as a sports. For me, any game which encourages violence is not in the right spirit. Boxing is a bloody game!
And in Apne, Dharmendra is a erstwhile boxing champion who wins a silver medal at Olympics, but was banned as he tests positive for drugs. The story is about how he expects his sons to erase the malign on his name. While the elder son Sunny disappoints him by abandoning boxing as his career option, Bobby decides to realise dad's dreams by taking up boxing. In the climax, Sunny takes up the challenge and realises dad's dream.
The movie has a fine blend of family values weaved around the sports. Though the movie has some bloody moments, the performances of Deols surprise you. The scenes involving Dharamji and Sunny are the best as we can see the eagerness of Sunny to get close to his Dad, and on the other hand the anger of a father who thinks his son abandoned his dreams.
Overall a nice movie. What shocks me is how Chak De India got a better media coverage as a sports movie, and how Apne was completely ignored. Is it because Yash Raj are well known for their flair for PR ? Is it because Deol family has been straight forward and frank never resorting to media-appeasement? Or may be SRK gets the media more TRP or sales than Deols!
Whatever be the reason, the media has erred in judging a good effort. And it's not good for the art the film making. If we continue to be obsessed with giants of film making and glamorous lobbies we may not see the fresh air in the film industry. We'll just remain a stagnat film making nation.

Look at these two posts
Found these two blog posts at http://www.filmfunda.blogspot.com/And both are regarding the latest disaster RGV ki Aag.
The cartoon is the funniest cartoon on films that I have come across.
I have received the cartoon in my email too. People are having fun circulating this cartoon.
Hahaha!
The other post
RGV ki aag bhuj gayee!RGV seems to be in confession mood. You can see him giving interviews to everyone and anyone being candid about the film he remade. It takes guts to confess and accept mistakes. And it is indeed a revealation to discover the another side of Ram Gopal Varma. There's no denying that one section of so called 'film critics' are always on their toes to destroy his reputation and malign him. But in the case of RGV ki AAG, it wasnt's just this section which completely torn apart the movie. It was a spontaneous shock from not just critics and but even Ramu's ardent fans. How can Ramu do this? It was just a shock! Nobody would have taken it so seriously if Sholay remake was attempted by a any C grade director. But Ramu has established himself with his hard work. And he did make a name by making successful and different movies like Rangeela and Satya. When so many people admire your works and follow your steps, you need to be cautious. And RGV ki AAg wasn't a careless step from Ramu. But Ramu is too strong a filmmaker to get distrubed by these critics or the failure of movies(Infact I don't remember his last hit film). I feel Ramu is like Sachin Tendulkar. People always expect him to score a century or else they'll crucify him.And criticism always made Sachin more adamant and determined. He always answered them with his bat. I'm sure the best answer Ramu can give to his critics by some path breaking movies. That's the only way to shutup the mouth of critics

Bollywood babes plant their own breakup stories!
The stars are ruling our life!
The film stars!
Without our daily dose of gossip our day won't end(begin?)
Stars' affairs, stars' link-ups, stars' break-ups...
Phew!
And look how they fool us by playing with our obsession.
Midday carried a story on Kareena Kapoor's alleged break up with her baby-faced boyfriend Shahid Kapur, citing the reason as Kareena's obsession with Chote Nawab, Saif Ali Khan. Shahid was abroad when the story was published. But when he came back the couple denied any link-up or break-up and went hand-in-hand at media gatherings. It is believed that Kareena herself called the Midday film reporter and divulged this little secret of break up and the fresh link-up!
May be the stars feel the fans are fools or may be they want to fool us!
I wonder how they misuse media for their own selfish private reasons. Sources say, earlier even Aishwarya Rai called Midday reporter and announced her breakup with Vivek Oberoi! And it was shown as if the little secrets leaked out of sources closer to the star!
May be serves us good for our obsession with stars! Do we need to care a damn for their breakups or linkups? Ofcourse it makes a chatpata reading and media loves it. But media loves it because we love it. But why don't we care more about these stars' acting ability? Why don't we want to know about a director's film making techniques?
Bollywood is more glamorous than cinema-centric. The focus is elsewhere.
But I'm optimistic, better days will prevail! Someday a film maker's movie will be a better news than a star's illicit affair!
Till then let's just enjoy the fun!

Bole toh Bollywood!
There's a bit of filmi character in each of us.
We try to act in different emotions for different situations.
From romantic chocolate hero with our girlfriends to
angry young man at a public que.
We marvel at our own ability to enact so many emotions.
Sometimes we find ourselves better actors than those so many
new faces on the silver screen.
Nothing can separate Bollywood from us.
Bollywood is as much part of our lives as dal-chawal(May be more!)
Just imagine if had no bollywood!
We would have to depend entirely on Hollywood for our daily dialogues,
mundane mannerisms, designer dress code and magical music!
Thank God!
We have Bollywood! And we never have to look at the
West for our daily dose of filmi diet!
Hail Bollywood!
